I have to say when i read this story i had tears in my eyes..My mom knows the struggles with having a special child, cuz iam that special child..My mom has said iam a blessing..
Dear Chrissy and Stephen, I was inspired by a newspaper article in today's (Sunday, May 14,2000) Roanoke Times. I live in Galax, VA and am a speech pathologist. I am so glad that you had the love and courage to take on the responsibilities of a very SPECIAL CHILD. God put all children here for a reason and stories like yours will certainly encourage and uplift another person who may be struggling with their own special child. On Thursday, May 11,2000- one of my special students died -age 21. I had just visited in the home on Wednesday night and I thank God that he led me into that neighborhood that evening. I was going back to school to work on reports after having dinner. Jenny's family is heartbroken and we are still wondering if this is a bad dream. Thank you for loving and for caring enough to go the extra mile. Every child, special or just "normal" (someone said that normal is a setting on your washer) needs someone who loves and cares for them. I will be looking for your book and will also be on the lookout for any future books. May God continue to bless you both. Chee-Chee
You are an inspiration and an angel of God!
Read about you in the Bismarck, N.D. paper and I would like to thank you for caring. Hope all the best. Roger Olofson

chrissy...stephen...you are both truly remarkable spirits. i read your story in the baton rouge advocate, on mother's day may 14. i don't know that there is anything i can say that others have not already expressed. my thoughts will be forever with you both...keep up the "God"-work. thank you for being generous enough to share your inspiration with others.
Hi my name is Jackie and I am a Native American from from Fort Yates, ND and I just wanted to say that I admire you very much:) and I think it takes a wonderful person from God to have the patience and understanding. I know now my problems are small compared to Stephans. I think you are a terrific lady.
Chrissy Nelson is beyond words to describe her. She has loved a little boy and will be blessed completely for her endurance, love and bond she has built with Stephen. I love her just by what she has done. We sure need more people like her in this world. Just think, if we each took upon ourselves one little girl or boy, what a wonderful world this would be.
Read your article in the Roanoke times on Mother's Day and was moved by your story. You are a strong caring lady. The world needs a lot more people like you. God bless you
I just read an article about you in the Southern Illinoisan. You are truly an example of an angel here on earth. May God continue to bless you and your son.
My name is Paul Vanni, and I live outside of Carbondale in southern Illinois. Our local newspaper carried your story written by Sharon Cohen of the AP this past Sunday, Mother's Day. I was very moved by it, so I checked out your website. I just want to say how much, Chrissy, I admire what you have done for Stephen. You both are in my prayers. Best wishes.
Dear Chrissy and Stephen,
After reading an article in the Danville, Kentucky Advocate newspaper about you both, I was so touched. I just wanted to wish you both well, and may God Bless Stephen to live a long life, and give you, Chrissy, blessings to care for him.
Are you still in Naperville? I use to live there about 20 years ago. I now reside in Ohio. My name is Heather Slone, and I just wanted you to know how much your story touched my heart.
Take Care, and God Bless you both.
Sincerely,
Heather Slone cleophas@earthlink.net
My heart is full of flowers. If Stephen could run through a field of flowers he would pick baskets of dandelions, yellow is one of his favorite colors. Instead his request to "tell my story" has filled my heart with flowers. Heart flowers that will not wither or wilt. Flowers from you, my friends. Beautiful flowers of kindness, encouragement, love, peace, hope, inspiration, goodness, and life. Thank you. I honor you with my life. Chrissy
Chrissy & Stephen,

As I read "He's Back" and "Seizure", and I fought hard to keep back the tears, I was touched in a beautiful way. God allows us to be in situations where we can bless others, and in doing so, bless ourselves also. Chrissy, you are an inspiration of love. And Stephen, you are one of God's angels. Thank you both for your love story, and how you touch others through it. Rick
I think this is a great sight. Chrissy & Stephen are pretty special people and are a great inspiration to me. -Trudy Casey

As I mentioned when Lorraine and I visited you and Stephen at your Mom's home, it took me a long time to read Eagledoctor as I had to continually wipe the tears from my eyes. I find the same thing happening reading your Web Site. How proud we are of you both and happy to finally see our not long lost relative. Hope to see you and Stephen at Naperville in Dec. Gods Blessings on you both! Love, Norm Haugen
Hi there, I started working with Stephen November 1996. I am still with him, witnessing the consistent, unconditional love of Chris for Stephen, loving him as her own son. Everyday life is not easy for them but they are destined to overcome. Stephen is very blessed to find a home in his Mom's heart and he thrives on love. It is God's love and grace that keeps them going, even against the wind. Stephen's hope is not only to keep special kids in the house with their family, but they may be at home in their hearts, regardless of the physical challenges they face. Stephen is also a little missionary, giving away his precious toys and clothes for the benefit of some unfortunate children in the Philippines. Indeed, nothing can stop what love can do. Sometimes we need to see things through Stephen's eyes. We thank God for you Stephen and Chris. Keep soaring, bringing hope to the hopeless.(Jonathan, Mookie and Mik-mik give their love for you both.)
Wow! What an inspiration you and Stephen are.
Chriss, You do such wonderful work. I cna't wait until your next book, The Eagle Doctor was so inspiring. Donna
I devore your book in a few nights, it was touching and moving experience thanks for making us humble and sharing your lives
Nat
I was sincerely touched by Chrissy's book EAGLE DOCTOR. I happened to pick it up in all places, the Children's Memorial gift shop when my daughter was in the PICU. She too is our angel & one of the light of our lives (we have 2 other boys also). She has special needs also, suffers from a terrible seizure disorder, a possible neurodegenerative disorder called Alpers, has lost much function & as Stephen did, suffered from depakane-induced pancriatitis. But nevertheless she trhrives despite all odds & is always content & happy. I feel most fortunate to be her mom and love her unconditionally, always!
I recently read your book,"Eagle Doctor" which was shared by John Gardner-Grier (We work at the same Wisconsin facility.) We were talking,on break, one day and he began telling me about your writing, life, and Stephen. I am and RN and I want you to know how much I admire your love and dedication in the work that you do.Stephen has certainly found and angel in you! I wish you both the best of everything!

I love and support your work. Thank God for people like you that will educate people and will make a difference.
We also adopted a little boy. They said he would not live past the age of 2. He will soon be 12...I remember coming home, machines, tubes, but most of all, a little boy that needed to be HOME. So he stop being afraid...so that he could see the trees...
Stephen - We miss you! I thank you and our Lord God that I had the opportunity get to know you, hold your hand which I will never forget, and to see your smile in spite of your pain. You are a child of God and have now gone Home to Him. Norm H.
Dear Chrissy,
I just finished reading "Eagle Doctor." Your mom gave it to us when we visited her a couple of weeks ago. We were on an extended trip and didn't get around to reading it right away. I saw my wife, Mary, reading it and it was obviously having a deep effect on her. When she put it down, I picked it up and read it cover-to-cover, only stopping to wipe my eyes occasionally.
I'm sure you don't remember me. I'm your cousin and about the same age as your brother, Brad. The last time I saw you, you were a cute little girl of about two. Time flies!
I'm recommending that everyone in the Nelson family (and our other family and friends) get a copy and read your book. I'm so proud to have a wonderful cousin like you!
Love, Bill & Mary Nelson
